Listening and Spoken Language Therapy

Listening and Spoken Language (LSL) therapy helps children who are deaf or hard of hearing develop the auditory, speech, language, and communication skills needed to participate fully in their homes, schools, and communities. By maximizing access to sound and teaching children how to listen, LSL therapy supports spoken language development through meaningful interactions and everyday experiences.

Currently, Melissa Dodds is the only AG Bell Certified Listening and Spoken Language Specialist (LSLS Cert. AVT) based in Wyoming. Through in-person and teletherapy services, she partners with families to help children develop listening and spoken language skills while building confidence and communication opportunities within daily routines.

  • Foundations for Listening

We help children learn to listen by developing their ability to detect, discriminate, and understand sounds in their environment. Therapy focuses on building auditory access and awareness through playful interactions, music, and conversation—laying the groundwork for spoken language development.

  • Growing Words with Purpose

Once a child is consistently accessing sound, we guide families in supporting speech and language development. Therapy sessions focus on expanding vocabulary, improving sentence structure, and using clear, intelligible speech. Each session is tailored to the child’s age and developmental stage, always embedding practice into everyday routines.

  • Coaching for Everyday Communication

We believe caregivers are the most powerful teachers. That’s why our approach centers on coaching families to use LSL strategies during daily routines like meals, playtime, and story time. We provide practical, individualized support so families feel confident guiding their child’s communication journey.
